Episode Description
How Grading and Being Late on Assignments Works
How to Pass This Course
To pass the course, you must successfully pass the Module 1 Quiz and the Peer Review Assignments at the end of Modules 2 through 5.
Optional Practice Quizzes
Throughout this course, you will find practice quizzes to help you assess your understanding of the skills and techniques presented in the video lectures. These practice quizzes are not graded and are intended for you to use to check your own understanding and achievement of the course's learning objectives.
Assignment Deadlines
The deadlines associated with each assignment are "recommended" deadlines. Here is how the deadlines work:
You have until the end of the cohort (session) to submit any assignment. So, it's OK to submit an assignment late. HOWEVER, if you submit an assignment after the recommended deadline, most of your fellow students might have already moved onto the next module, and you might not be able to receive enough reviews as there is a lack of reviewers for that assignment in the current cohort (session) at that point. This is particularly true if you've missed 2 consecutive deadlines.
If that happened to you, you have two options:
Option 1. WAIT AT LEAST 4 DAYS after you submit if you choose to try this option! DO NOT ask right after you post your submission! Ask your fellow students in the discussion forums to do you a favor and grade your assignment (even if they already fulfilled their required quota of reviews). If you do that, make sure you provide a link to your submission on the Coursera platform (not your solution deployment!) In order to get the link to your Coursera submission, navigate to that assignment submission page (as shown below),click on the words "Shareable Link". Then, copy URL address that is in your browser's address bar.
DO NOT ASK for your assignment to be graded in the Discussion forums if you were NOT late with your submission. Coursera will automatically assign someone to grade your assignment! Give it 3-4 days and your assignment will get graded. Be patient.
Option 2. Switch to the next cohort (session). All of your current work and progress is automatically saved and travels with you to the next cohort (session). You will NOT need to resubmit assignments that you've already completed and have been graded. Your previously submitted but ungraded assignment will be placed first in the queue to be graded in the new cohort (session).
A new cohort (session) starts every 2 weeks.
Option 2 is the ONLY guaranteed way to get your late assignment graded. Obviously, in Option 1, you are relying the good will and availability of the students in that particular cohort (session). If you missed more than 2 consecutive assignment deadlines, choose Option 2.
Cohort Ends And You're Not Done. Now, what?
If the cohort (session) ends and you still have assignments that are either ungraded or did not receive a passing grade, you must enroll into the next open cohort (session) in order to complete the course.
NOTE: During the time when one cohort (session) ends and before the next one begins, course content is partially locked. Coursera has set this up automatically to provide an opportunity for the course team to make any improvements to their course content. However, you will still be allowed to enroll and 'preview' some content immediatelly. Your progress through the preview will be saved when the cohort (session) officially opens.
A new cohort (session) starts every 2 weeks.
Can I Take This Course At My Own Pace? (Faster or Slower)
YES, you can!
If you want to go faster and finish faster, GO FOR IT! Just remember that you might have to wait for your assignments to be peer reviewed, but there will probably be others who finish faster, so you probably won't have to wait long.
If you want to take it slower, you can do that as well. Just remember that if one cohort (session) ends and you're still not done, you'll have to enroll into the next cohort (session). All of your submissions and progress is saved so you can pick up exactly where you left off in the previous cohort (session). A new cohort (session) starts every 2 weeks.
I Failed An Assignment. Do I Fail the Course?
NO! The only way to fail this course is to stop trying. :-) If you fail an assignment, just fix whatever you need to fix and resubmit. No points are taken off for resubmitting.
